Buyer confidence in Australia is showing notable improvement, despite the challenges of high property prices and interest rates. According to the latest Mortgage Choice Home Loan Report, 83% of prospective buyers are optimistic about purchasing a property, a significant increase from 70% last quarter.
This boost in confidence is attributed to a rise in property listings, which is enhancing buyer choice. Nonetheless, the current market conditions—characterised by record-high prices and interest rates—are prompting many to adjust their expectations. Approximately 60% of buyers are now considering regional areas or locations further from city centres, with a preference for smaller homes, apartments, or duplexes.
The home-buying process is increasingly prolonged, with 62% of buyers experiencing delays and a third requiring multiple pre-approvals. Despite economic uncertainty, buyers are focusing on when the timing is right for them, rather than trying to predict interest rate movements.
Recent PropTrack data also indicates a significant increase in new property listings, helping to moderate price growth and expand options for buyers across the country.
