Monthly lending to property investors grew 4.1% in February, according to the latest housing finance data from the ABS. However, the year-on-year figure was down.

Loans to owner-occupiers grew by a modest 1.7% over the month.

Domain Group chief economist Andrew Wilson said investor lending was “up on last month considerably”, but when comparing February 2016 with February 2015 the numbers were down 10%.

“It’s a pretty reasonable result for investors that shows investor activity has, at the very least, stabilised after the shakeout that happened,” Wilson said.
