Chinese investors, both Australian-Chinese and mainland Chinese, are investing strongly in Australian residential property and their interest is unlikely to wane.

The Chinese influx has triggered concerns among locals that they are being priced out of the property market.

Market analysts Bloomberg say that Chinese investment has helped prop up the housing market in the face of a tighter mortgage market and that young Chinese investors are backed by relatives in China.

The Chinese have also helped to boost construction, says Shane Oliver, chief economist at AMP Capital Investors.  They are active buyers in the high-rise apartment markets in particular.
